As the fourth and final season of M. Night Shyamalan’s Servant drops on Apple TV Plus 13th January, it was a wonderful opportunity not be missed when I was invited by trusted movie fan site HeyUGuys to interview the cast all about it. As an admirer of the show the pleasure was all mine!

My anticipation was high leading up to my interview with the stars of the film; Toby Kebbell who plays devoted and long suffering husband Sean, Nell Tiger Free who embodies the ethereal and ever mysterious servant, Leanne and Rupert Grint the complex, stalwart brother Julian, battling his own inner demons.

First up was Toby Kebbell: “He was trying to be the blue collar chef, he’s had some success and married above his grade, and all the accoutrements and luxury he’s getting out of his marriage. I think he’s trying very hard to be the best husband he can be, and I think ultimately this final season we get to see who Sean truly was the whole time, and why he’s the way he was. It was a pleasure to play and a real honour.” He says of his character.

Rupert Grint explains a little of the supernatural elements of the show. “Things happen in this show that can’t be undone which is really quite a profound thing, because before things could be answered rationally, anything supernatural, which is still the case in this final season, but big things are happening and you can’t go back, so it has this real finality to it, which is really exciting.”

I think for all of the audience we have witnessed an awakening in Leanne, evolving from a timid girl to a petulant teenager. Nell Tiger Free explains, “From season 1 to season 4 there’s been such a journey that Leanne has been on, unrecognisable almost by the end, the hair is better (laughs). But she’s evolved and whether she is supernatural or not is up to the viewer to decide, but I think whatever she is with her energy and her power whether through being a woman or being something else, she’s grown so much and it’s been so much fun for me to play, because I’ve grown up with her, it’s been great.”

With so much content out there, I highly recommend Servant. This is a show takes you on a journey of incredulity to pathos, pathos to incredulity, because for all the supernatural elements at its heart is a drama of a family in crisis. What is the psychological damage inflicted on all members of a family when you lose a baby.
